So is it just me, or is time seriously passing by.  I've been receiving some emails lately about what to do at work functions, and with the party season beginning to fire up, I thought I would write here about eating out and having fun at the same time.

Most Australian's would agree that eating out is ranked as one of their favourite past times. Add after-work parties, lunch-time snacks, functions, birthdays and special occasions to the list and we probably eat out more than we realise. But does eating out mean that we sacrifice our healthy eating plan?

Just because we are away from home doesn't mean that we should give up on our weight.

Menu Options

Read and look at the menu carefully before making your choice. Take time to study which items may contain excess fat and calories.Try to select dishes with good nutritional value like fruits, vegetables, fish and low salt foods.

Try to choose the following cooking techniques.

  • Baked
  • Grilled
  • Poached
  • Steamed
  • Roasted
  • Sauteed or stir-fried with minimal oil.
Always look for ingredients and descriptions that indicate that the food is low in fat.

Menu Size

Most menus now contain appetizers, side dishes, bread, desserts, main courses, salads and entrees—but just because they are listed doesn't mean that you have to order them.

Limit what you eat by bypassing one of the above. If you plan on having dessert, then skip the entrée and the side serving of bread. If you wish to have a meaty dish, then say goodbye to the entrée and afters.

Developing a healthy approach to eating out can take time, but keep following our steps to become healthy when eating out.

1/3 cup fresh lime juice
1 1/2 cups diced mango
1/3 cup diced red pepper
1/3 cup chopped scallions

6 salmon fillets, 4 to 5 ounces each
salt to taste
freshly ground black pepper

Cooking instructions:

For the mango-avocado relish:
1. Remove and discard the pit and skin from the avocados and rub the flesh of the avocado with some of the lime juice to prevent it from discoloring.
2. Chop the the flesh and toss it with the remaing lime juice, mango, red pepper and scallions. Store the relish in the refrigerator for up to 1 day.

For the salmon:
3. Preheat the grill.
4. Brush the fillets with oil and season generously with salt and pepper.
5. Broil the fillets for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, turning only once. (Thin fillets take less time, thicker fillets take more.)
6. Placed the fillets on warmed plates, spoon the relish on top of the fish and serve.

Serving Size: 1 salmon fillet with relish

Quick easy and delicious to make. Wonderfully high in protein and all the good stuff. I hope you enjoy this months recipe and make it part of your nutrition plan this week.

Hey everyone.. this is a personal message from JERRY BRAAM our BFL champion 2001.

Every year, to help get a laser focus on my Body-for-LIFE, I’ve found it very motivating to create an incentive, schedule a prize…a reward to myself, to celebrate finishing my first 12 week Challenge of the year! Last year nearly 100 BFL Champions & Challengers from around the world did the same! What could be better than kicking off New Year 2006 with a 12-week BFL Challenge and then rewarding all your efforts with cruise to the Bahamas??? Try adding to that, the company of the most focused, positive and inspiring group of individuals you may ever meet…together with BFL director Porter Freeman, BFL manager Marc Bennett…& a continuously growing list of your favorite BFL Champions & Challengers from around-the-world? A Major… HighPoint!!! .

After last year’s highly successful Caribbean cruise. We couldn't imagine not having another BFL World Event. Think how awesome it will be, to be part of a ship loaded with very positive, high-energy individuals celebrating our success together as a team! Cruising on Royal Caribbean’s Sovereign of the Seas to the sun-drenched Bahamas for 4 full days exploring her islands!

“I hope that ALL of you can be a part of the 2006 cruise. The last cruise was one of the top experiences of my entire life and I anticipate that the 2006 trip will be another. Being surrounded by so many members of the BFL family is truly amazing. There were about 25 official BFL Champions on 2005’s and once the word gets out… I’ll bet there will be at least as many next year.”

Marc Bennett/BFL judge

Looking forward to sea-ing you on our CFL Bahamas Adventure! (I have sailed Royal Caribbean‘s Sovereign of the Seas before. This is a FANTASTIC trip!)
